Our school is made up of about 800 students. We have a mix of races and socioeconomic backgrounds. We also have a large military population, so many of our military students come and go throughout the year. Our school, teachers, and students work hard each day. The school has received many awards and is a Blue Ribbon School.
I teach about 65 fifth graders each day.
The way the curriculum is set up, students don't really receive a heavy science instruction until 4th grade. I work hard to make sure that the students get as many hands-on experiences as possible. I want to help prepare them for the middle and high school curriculum ahead. I also try to make math fun and interesting for the students.
My Project
My students need navy uniform jackets for school days. Our school district has a policy that all jackets must be navy when worn inside the school building. Many of our students do not have a solid navy jacket. They are allowed to wear any jacket to the school, but once inside, they must take off their non-navy jacket. I believe that many parents are doing all they can to find and send solid navy jackets. We all know that jackets disappear from the store shelves mid-January when all the summer bathing suits appear! But honestly, January and February are our coldest months. I would love to help these parents with a jacket when they need it most.
Students need the warmth and security of a navy jacket so that they do not feel like they are breaking school rules.
I love all my students and if I can help them with this one small item, that would be fantastic!
