I am a Sixth grade teacher in an inner city school in Worcester, Massachusetts. Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with 100% of our students receiving free breakfast and lunch. Our school is also one of the most ethnically diverse schools in the city, where students speak a multitude of languages. As diverse as our students are economically and culturally, they are diverse in their academics.
My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day.
Many of my students receive backpacks of food on the weekend, and our school also runs a food pantry for our families. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day.
My Project
My students will use the tablet charging cart to charge and secure their iPads. My class was blessed to receive iPads from Donor's Choose, but now we are in need of a cart. The cart will also allow us to transport the iPads and Chromebooks if needed.

My students will be able to use the iPads to access apps that reinforce skills and enable higher level learning. iPads will not only become a tool that will help create more authentic learning experiences in the classroom, but also build twenty first century skills that our children need in order to be successful in a quickly evolving technical world. My students will be able to work in centers with the iPads, writing, reading, working with math manipulatives, and more. Students may not only use the iPads and Chromebooks to connect with the world in new ways and build early literacy, math, and technological skills, but also conduct research on environmental science and work collaboratively, helping them achieve the Common Core 6th Grade Environmental Science Standards, such as obtaining and combining information to describe that energy and fuels are derived from natural resources and their uses affect the environment. They will be able to create both independent and collaborative projects in order to show a true understanding of concepts. As mentioned above, iPads and Chromebooks are integral and the amazing tools that should be present in every classroom, which is why it is so important us to be able to keep them safe in the tablet charging cart.
