Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have 29 wonderful 5th-grade students, which include special education students, magnet students, English Language Learners, and intervention students. They are very enthusiastic about learning and are always eager to explore new things. The children love coming to school every day, and always have a big smile on their faces, despite the socioeconomic hardships they endure in the community in which they live. They attend a school in California, in a low-income neighborhood. The school is both a regular and highly gifted/magnet institution. However, my students are part of the regular school and do not have access to the materials and enrichment activities that the magnet students have.
My Project
I have a very creative and artistic group of students who love to do art. If it was up to them we would do art all day, however, that is not possible because we need to cover other subjects like math, science, and language arts. In order to take advantage of their interest in art and keep them engaged in other subjects, I try to infuse art with math, science and language arts. For example, students built a small scale bridge using the ancient paper-folding art of origami. The students were not only using their creativity and imagination but also their math and engineering skills. With all these fun and engaging activities comes the task of keeping art materials organized and handy.
That is why we are asking for an art paper rack to keep all their art materials in one place and ready whenever they need it, not to mention that it will also keep our classroom clutter free to create an environment that is conducive to learning.
Thank you in advance for considering donating to our project and helping us keep our classroom organized.
