I teach at an amazing high school in Klamath Falls, Oregon. I teach a class named Service Learning and am the adviser for the Kindness Club. The class is student-led and we work on various community service projects. Our biggest on-going project is the boutique and pantry we run with the Kindness Club.
Many of our students experience hard times, but with our boutique, we are able to give them access to basic supplies and food items for after school and on the weekends, as well as for long breaks.
We have students who come to the boutique because they know they can get help. When they share their stories, I am always humbled.
Students cannot focus on learning until they have their basic needs met. Our boutique helps these students by making sure that no one has to go without basic everyday essentials. My students are caring, loving individuals who want to make a difference in the world. In fact, they are already changing lives daily. We help feed, clothe, and give basic needs to students. The boutique is open to all students each day before school, at break, lunch, and after school.
We have a wonderful, free boutique at our school. We provide help with clothing, basic toiletries, cleaning supplies, and food. Without the boutique, some of our students would eat only at school and would most likely go without basic toiletries. They can stop by the pantry and pick up a few basics to take home with them for after school, on the weekends, and on breaks.
Our students deserve to have the burden of worrying taken off their young shoulders, as well as to have access to basic toiletries.
In this project, we have included food, organizing supplies (to keep out pests), deodorant, face wash, tampons and more.
