This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are hard-working, polite and extremely helpful students. These students are from the south side of Chicago and all have disabilities of various natures. The students in my class like listening to music, singing along graciously, drawing, playing basketball and laughing at the silliness of others.
Their drive for their education always surpasses my expectations.
The students in my class have different intellectual disabilities, Autism, Down Syndrome or Cerebral Palsy. The wide range of abilities makes my classroom unique and entertaining.
My Project
These materials will keep my immunocompromised disabled students healthy. Illinois released that schools can open in the fall. Since my students have moderate to severe intellectual disabilities, I know this will be a challenge. My students may not be used to wearing masks and will not understand the importance of it. Seeing some students over the summer, they took their masks off frequently. I need extra masks to make sure they are covered at all times. Since my students don't understand hygiene, hand sanitizer is a must to make sure they can keep their bodies clean. These masks and hand sanitizer will help ensure the students and staff can stay healthy at all times.
