Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a low socioeconomic campus. Most of my students are bilingual English Language Learners and many of them are struggling learners eager to grow and succeed. My students face many struggles such as homelessness and poverty. In these times of online learning, many of my students do not have the necessary devices to join my class online. I record myself doing lessons and send them to my students via text message. Many of them lack parental support and in spite of that, they are energetic learners with a smile on their faces and a positive attitude who love to learn math! I also service many students with special needs such as learning disabilities, physical impairments, and emotionally challenged students as well. These are extremely difficult times in the educational world!
My Project
Distance Learning is something that I think all educators are trying to get familiar with. Having to create a classroom setting at home is challenging. My students deserve the best quality education no matter where they are.
I try my best to create captivating Distance Learning lessons with the limited supplies that I have on hand.
It can be a struggle to get their attention online so I find myself making new strategy posters and using sticky notes and markers to emphasize and highlight key points in our lesson. I set up my document camera here at home and I display a split screen on my laptop to teach and review our Math lessons step by step. I need supplies such as markers, colored paper and laminating sheets to draw out the step by step strategies for my kids to follow along with me. I record myself working out the Math problems assigned for the day and use sticky notes and markers to color code our different Math strategies and clue words. Please help me achieve this mission through this project.
