My students are caring, smart, and hard-working. They are active participants in their own education. As a magnet school, we have a diverse student body. Over 50% of our students are living below the poverty line and struggle to attend school due to transportation, family obligations, or lack of basic physiological needs. Many students are English Language Learners while the rest of the student body comes from surrounding towns from various socioeconomic and racial backgrounds. Despite these challenges, we focus on creating pride and passion for achievement and to always transform obstacles into opportunities. This focus allows our diverse group of students the opportunity to develop skills and character needed to be responsible, respectful, and productive citizens in the global community.
My Project
Due to the fact that many of the students in the classroom come from a low socioeconomic background, it is a strain on many parents to buy school supplies. Unfortunately, the school's budget is not large enough to supply everything that the students and I need during the school day. With the funding of this project I will be able to provide my students with dividers for their binders that will keep them organized within the math classroom. Students' copies of resources and materials will be color-coded to assist in organization within their binders. In addition, the hole punch will allow them to put their work directly into the correct section rather than leaving it in the front pocket of the binder. Your donation will ensure that the students have the materials necessary to start the school year with all that they need.
When students do not have the proper materials they need to complete classwork their learning suffers.
The funding of this project will ensure that students can spend less time worrying about getting the school supplies and more time being organized and learning.
