My students need a place where all the manipulatives, sensory items, and books can be stored for easy access.
I am a special education teacher working in grades K-2. I provide special education support for nearly 25 students across the three grade levels collaborating with the different general education classroom teachers to best meet the individual academic, social, and behavioral needs of the students.
My students have the drive to learn the curriculum and grow socially with grade level peers but may require additional supports to be successful within the classroom.
It is the goal of all the teachers to provide differentiated instruction and materials to best meet the needs of all students that are in the classroom.
The students I get to work with each day work hard to be the best student, person, peer, and friend they can be.
The students that make up the community of the school come from very diverse backgrounds and cultures. Our students attend a township where 74% of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch. As a township, we have a graduation rate of 90%. Projects funded through DonorsChoose help provide essential tools for sensory, fine and gross motor skills, and hands-on manipulatives for academics to help grow the students into independent learners.
I strive to teach my students how to become independent in the ways of thinking, creating, and being. I want the students to grow up to be themselves and be proud. To speak for their likes and dislikes. To help instill independence. I want them to learn how to access needed materials on their own. To do so we need a place to keep essential materials such as sensory fidgets, noise-canceling headphones, content manipulatives, adapted books, and so much more.
The materials in this project will clearly define the space for essential everyday materials making them easily accessible for all students at any point during the instructional day.
Having a sense of organization and place to store essentials, is vital in helping the flow of the classroom and tracking materials in use.
