My Students

I teach Special Education Credit Recovery students in an inner city public school.

These students are working on completing their credits in order to graduate and earn their diplomas. These are kids who made mistakes in the past, but now realize how important to them a high school diploma really is. They come from neighborhoods all over the city. Some have to take 2 or 3 buses to attend school. They have struggled and have not quit. I respect them.

My Project

We are requesting some Hurricane Box Fans in order to keep us cool while learning in school. We are in a very old building in an urban district. Our classroom was very hot (up to 89 degrees) for the entire start of our school year. It also gets very hot at the end of the school year. Due to earlier and earlier start times during the month of August we found it very difficult to concentrate on productive learning while sitting in a very hot environment. We are also requesting paper towels, because we use a lot when we are hot!

My old box fan was from the 1970's.

It broke yesterday. We would really appreciate some cool air to help us focus on what is important... learning!
