Mrs. Sanders from Dallas TX is requesting materials related to food, clothing & hygiene through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need pocket Kleenex and lip balm to have and use throughout the school year. The cleaning supplies will help keep the cots, tables, and desks clean when students are ill, vomit, and have nosebleeds.

I work with an excellent group of elementary children in PreK through 5th grade. Our student population primarily consists of Hispanic and African-American children who live in a high poverty area with a lot of crime. As a school nurse, I provide numerous services for students, staff, and parents. I am the only health professional some of these students see when they are injured or ill.
I normally see between 20 and 30 students a day for various health illnesses and injuries.
To maintain clinic traffic, I need help from you. I am requesting basic clinic supplies that every school nurse uses and needs to make their clinic run smoothly throughout the school year. If you can help, your contribution would be greatly appreciated and used for the benefit of the students and adults I treat! Thank you!
Students love the lip balm for their chapped lips and the pocket Kleenex for their runny noses. Many of them keep these items in their desks to use when they need to blow their noses, stop a small nosebleed, or have chapped lips. I cannot keep these items in the clinic for long because so many of them use these! I will continue to give these items to the students who need and request them to reduce dry, cracked lips, treat nosebleeds, and reduce cold symptoms. In the past, I have bought and given out Gatorade to students who have shown signs of heat related illnesses (heat exhaustion & heat cramps), so I would continue to use the Gatorade for that purpose.
Having a clean environment helps students focus on their classwork and not their environment.
Some of the teachers obtain disinfectant wipes or baby wipes and borrow Lysol spray from the school clinic when a student has vomited at their desk, in the halls, or on some of their things. I personally use it on the cots and tables in the clinic to prevent the spread of germs from person to person. I am able to provide soap and baby wipes for students to clean up in the school clinic when they have had a bathroom accident. We all work together to reduce the spread of germs in our school and to help students get back to the classroom in a timely manner so they are not missing a lot of classwork.
