Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 5th grade at a Title I, K-8 span school. All of our students are eligible for free breakfast, lunch, and supper. Our students' families know the importance of education and strive for their children to succeed. The students in my classroom are energetic and come to school every day ready to learn and grow their thinking. Together, our school works on building a love of learning and sense of community, among other things, year after year. The motto of our school is "Awesome Takes Practice," which is something that my students work daily. They understand that in order to succeed or to get better at something, they need to put in the time and practice at it daily.
My Project
My students have many resources that they use throughout the day. And with that, we are fortunate to have two large magnetic white boards. Currently we tape math manipulatives to the board during whole group and small group instruction. With new magnetic manipulatives, the students and I will easily be able to move them around as needed. Constantly adding new books to our classroom library keeps our students engaged in reading. Whether it is a sequel to a novel we read in class or a series, it is important for us to add new titles each year.
Magnetic manipulatives, new books, and a bookshelf to store it all will be very beneficially to our class this next year and in the future!
