My students need a new refrigerator so we can keep the food that we are sending home over the the weekend fresh. Also, we can freeze meat products that are not immediately sent home with them.
Our school is a Title I school which means that 73% of our student population receives free and reduced lunches. Most of our students are from diverse working families and some of them just immigrated into this country. Despite all the obstacles in life, our students look forward to come to school to learn and school life is one constant factor that ground their path in being good learners. Our staff is committed and full of passion in serving our diverse community and strive for academic excellence. However, we need assistance to acquire materials, technology and classroom supply to help us meet the needs of our students.
My Project
There is an increased number of students who are in transient/homeless situation at our school as the prevalence of homelessness goes up locally and nationally. As our school community experiences higher number of students and their families needing assistance, we start rallying our whole community together to help. One thing we are doing is collecting food and produces from our community and packing food (both perishable and non-perishable) to send home on weekends to ensure every one of our students and their families are not hungry when school is not in session.
With perishable food, we rely on our refrigerator to keep them cold and fresh because there are many times that some produces will come in way before the weekend and we have to keep them fresh.
However, our old refrigerator is getting too old and its condition is deteriorating. We need a new refrigerator to help us keep these food cold and fresh.
