Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in our school are from low-income families, many of them struggling to provide a safe place to live from day to day. Over 70% of our student population receives free or reduced-price lunch. Due to personal and economic challenges, parents are not always able to give academic support to their children. We have worked very hard to provide a warm and caring school community for our kids to come to each day in which they can learn in a stress-free and supportive environment. The personal successes that they achieve each day in the classroom help them to build the confidence they will need to persevere and prepare for successful futures!
My Project
I like to use Scholastic News to supplement my school's Language Arts curriculum because it really captures the interest of my 4th graders. The topics are timely and the reading levels are appropriate for my kids to access. I am able to integrate the content with any of my grammar, reading or writing lessons so I find it extremely valuable!
Sitting together in collaborative groups is such a powerful way to learn!
This is why I am trying to add some floor lap desks to my flexible seating collection. These desks will be perfect for kids who want to sit on the floor but still need a surface to write and draw on. I predict that these will be the first choice of many of my students when it comes to our flexible seating time!
I am also in need of some 3 ring binder pencil pouches to help my students organize their supplies. I am hoping that by using the pouches instead of filling large, space consuming pencil boxes, my students will keep better track of their learning tools and it will make them much more portable!
