This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I'm the librarian of a Title I high school in the heart of the Mississippi Delta. Our student population consists of tenth, eleventh, and twelveth grade students. All of our student body receives free lunch. Many are reluctant readers who read more than two levels below grade level. However, despite the obstacles they face, our students are curious and motivated to learn. They just need more tools to encourage them to do so. They are incredibly creative and talented kids who are determined to make their mark in the world.
My Project
In the Mississippi Delta, we have an abundance of culture...and HEAT. As spring rolls around, it tends to get hot very quickly. Unfortunately, our building experiences difficulties with our air conditioning units and this can lead to an uncomfortable classroom setting. I'm requesting three fans to help combat the heat and keep our students cool and able to concentrate and learn efficiently. Having fans will result in a comfortable, cool atmosphere in the library. We want our library to be conducive to learning and these fans will definitely help. Thank you in advance for considering the needs of our students!
