We stay busy in preschool. We work hard to help students learn how to talk, stay with a group, and participate in activities. Students learn that learning is fun!
The students in our class are excited to learn!
Most of these students have a disability and corresponding IEP. We work with kids with autism, down syndrome, speech delays, cerebral palsy, and other developmental delays. In addition to participating in the preschool curriculum, students receive speech and language therapy, motor therapy (occupational therapy and physical therapy), behavior support, and/or academic support. Students in our program come from towns and surrounding rural areas located across our district.
My Project
Preschoolers are always exploring! They have to touch things in order to learn about them. They learn about how things look, feel, sound, smell, and even taste. Sometimes we get messy as we learn. We need new aprons to protect our clothes as we explore and learn.
Our students are scientists as they explore the properties of the world around them.
One thing we love to explore is kinetic sand. Our students are very engaged in observing and experimenting with kinetic sand. They shape it, squish it, and watch it move. We need more kinetic sand to allow more students to be involved at the same time.
We need scientific tools that are built for young children. Our students want to be involved in our hands on scientific investigations. These experiences increase many other skills. We learn new words to describe things (such as squishy, long, slimy, cold, short, heavy, and many more). We learn about colors and shapes. We work the muscles in our hands to help us prepare to cut and write. We build social skills as we take turns, share, and talk about our ideas.
