My Students
My students have grown up in the inner city, most if not all are lower income families. Many of these children face poverty, violence, and obscenities of life on a daily basis; that are well beyond what most of us could imagine. Despite all of this, they come to school ready to expand their minds and continue to explore.
Many students do not have access to sweatshirts.
Our school has limited resources, but students try their best to continue to expand on their learning. I try my best to provide everything I can for these students so they can continue to expand their minds.
My Project
My students need winter appropriate clothing, i.e. sweatshirts, before the notorious Connecticut winter season sets in. Not to mention the FREEZING classroom.
Coming from some of the toughest and lowest socioeconomic neighborhoods, my students do not often have the financial freedom when it comes to purchasing items for the new school year whether they are essential or not.
The air conditioner in our building is not very efficient, therefore our classroom is freezing. We need sweatshirts in order to stay warm and healthy.
A high percentage of our student population reside in foster homes, homeless shelters or numerous family members homes and do not have regular access to purchasing things such as sweatshirts, and with a lack of financial freedom these are the last things you think about. I want to create a resource for my students so they can get a sweatshirt. Together we can improve student lives!
