My Students

My students are very active fifth graders. Most love to be moving, a few even like to stand every now and then. Our school is in a rural area so students are used to playing sports, being outside, and running around. The challenge of sitting in their seats for so long can lead to students being distracted and fidgeting. Plus it is not very healthy for anyone to sit that long. I know I love to have the option to stand during the day while doing my work.

My Project

These standing desk converters will be a place where students can work quietly when they need a break from sitting. They can just go to the back of the room, take their things with them and work quietly without distracting the entire class. I think this will really help with their fidgeting, as well as helping them focus more on the task at hand.

These tables will help my students be more attentive.

It will promote a healthier lifestyle because they will strengthen muscles that need to be used to stand for a period of time. My students would also be able to get more work done in the afternoon when they really start fidgeting.
