Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Twenty-seven eager, enthusiastic, and happy little faces greet me every morning. They are truly the reason I love what I do. Every day is a chance to share my knowledge with my 27 little ones and it is a gift.
My students are 5 and 6 years old and full of energy.
They are curious and have the normal attention span of a child, an average of 6 minutes of focus. It is this reason that I work hard to change activities often. We go from a carpet activity to a movement activity often and we sing songs, watch videos and do some seat work.
Our school is a Title I school and all our students qualify for a free or reduced-price lunch.
My Project
Currently the Mac I am using is from the year 2012. In computer years, it is a thousand years old and it is showing its age. It is sluggish and takes forever to turn on and load videos. My students have to count to see how long it takes to load while we wait for the attendance screen to pop up. Forget trying to watch our science lessons or do a GoNoodle lesson. All I hear while they sit and wait is "Teacher, it's not working." If I had a dollar for every time I heard that I'd be able to buy myself a new laptop. But sadly, it is too expensive. However, the laptop I currently have can be upgraded. It has room for more memory. This would give my current laptop new life for a lot less money. My students will be able to benefit from timely attendance, a seamless testing situation (the laptop is used monthly for progress monitoring and for other assessments) and less wasted instructional time. However, we do review the colors and count while we wait for the circle of death to stop. We have to make the best of our situation. We have to keep it moving along. Sluggish and tired, but we move along. Help us speed up the process and move into the 21st century. Donate to the incredible students of our room.
