Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have a kindergarten class with 24 students, they are bright eyed and full of energy. My students are excited to come to school and learn new things every day. Our school is located in the south side of Los Angeles. We are a Title I school where all of our students qualify for free lunch. My students welcome all and every single donation that we receive, and we need each and everything we can get. My students need materials to stay engaged and have the right learning conditions to maximize engagement in the classroom.
My Project
My students came up with this idea requesting a variety of healthy snacks, a water cooler to keep them hydrated throughout the day and 4 Hokki stools to keep them moving while they learn. They requested this project because they are tired of being hungry in the afternoon, and thirsty after recess and lunch. They are also tired of having to sit still while they learn.
With this kid inspired project, we are hoping to promote a healthy and active lifestyle.
My students have told me and shown me that they struggle with sitting still for any length of time. My students are requesting 4 hokki stools, which will help them wiggle while they learn in small group interaction. My students believe that the hokki stools will help them stay focused and learn better.
We are also requesting a water cooler to keep us hydrated after recess and lunch and my students are asking for a variety of healthy snacks that will give us energy in the afternoon and let us be active for 60 minutes without being tired and hungry. My students have said that with healthy snacks they will have more energy to complete the day and finish with a good 60 minutes of Physical Education.
