Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Our school and surrounding community face challenges on a daily basis.
Our school was built in the late 1930's and has gone through several upgrades to keep this institution in the community. The majority of our school is Hispanic and we are referred to as a Tier 1 school. The students are brimming with potential and a thirst for knowledge. Many face a grim future but that isn't written in stone. For 5th grade, one foundation that we are attempting to lay is the fact that you've got to roll with the punches in life. Sometimes life knocks you down and we say when it does, land on your back because if you can look up, you can get up.
My Project
With the resources listed here, 5th grade will be able to utilize the smart board in my room. We lack the projector and cables to make it interactive which it's designed to be. We use FOSS for our science curriculum and that has many smart board resources that we aren't able to utilize. Studies show that kids will retain more knowledge and be more engaged with hands on. We desperately need to keep these kids engaged and excited about learning and these items will do just that.
This generation of kids are all about electronics.
The requested items will allow each child an opportunity to simply leave their seat and use the board in front of the other students. That shows mastery as well as the fortitude to face the class which many are shy about. The interaction of the board will flow across multiple discipline lines for instruction. They will have hands on to assist in retaining the knowledge.
