Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our room is a classroom for students with moderate to severe disabilities and although it's a wide range of abilities, they're able to learn and have fun! All of the students are working on daily living and vocational skills so that they are able to live as independently as possible. They enjoy taking walks around the neighborhood, cooking up new recipes and exploring the world through multi sensory activities.
It's not the diagnosis that makes these students special; it's their heart and personality that really makes them special.
Everyday my students make gains toward being more independent and I love celebrating every milestone.
My Project
My class has a range of abilities and interests. Because of this, our daily activities switch frequently and includes independent tasks, one-to-one, small group and whole group instruction.
With these supplies, my students will be able to have more choices for activities during independent tasks and art projects.
Every day we focus on independent tasks, where students work on activities by themselves with minimal prompting. This helps to foster interests and hobbies. Independent tasks include sorting various counters, playing with playdoh and building with Magna-Tiles. We also do weekly art projects so that students can get sensory integration and learn to interact with different types of textures. Art projects include cut and glue activities, finger painting, stamping and ripping paper.
