My Students

My students come from a wide variety of places to call America home. They are English language learners from Bosnia, Bangladesh, Yemen, Pakistan, and Serbia. They are also American students, special education students, and overall, students with a drive to succeed. With the proper supports, they will be able to do so in their core curriculum. These students are hard workers whose families may lack the funds to provide our classroom with some of the essentials to allow for collaborative group learning.

As fifth-grade students, it is important for my students to rise to the occasion and succeed in their state testing, laying the foundation to help in their success as they prepare for middle school.

They are excited to learn and embrace the many opportunities presented to them in the American education system.

My Project

My students are a creative bunch, and, to that end enjoy activities that foster that creativity. As we are in the middle of the school year, so many of their crayons are "less than perfect" and need a refresh to further their creative pursuits.

In Michigan, we are in our cold season, so students will not be outdoors for recess, and need activities that can foster their mental wellbeing and creative pursuits.

Therefore, I'm requesting the full series of Dan Gutman's "My Weird School" books to allow them to engage in funny text when free time occurs. This 21 book series is a hit with students for independent reading, and having the full series at our disposal allows every student to engage with these books. I've also selected a LEGO Chain Reactions/STEM activity kit so those students who prefer hands on activities have something school-related to stretch their brains.
