Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember learning how to read? Do you remember watching your parents reading the newspaper and thinking that it would be fun to read the paper when you grew up? Scholastic magazines enables our students to do exactly that...read the paper.
Our students are learning how to read in English and Spanish.
We are a kindergarten dual language classroom in a public school in Connecticut. Our students are learning English and Spanish in our program. They are learning to read and write in both languages. Our students are motivated and excited to learn two languages!
My Project
Because these magazines are brightly colored, students enjoy reading them.
We have a Smartboard in the classroom. The magazine comes with an on-line component that will read the magazine to the children and even provide a short video to illustrate the topic. They have current news about celebrations and fascinating facts with short videos to show examples that kids love!
The on-line component allows the children to practice concepts they introduce and reinforces new skills.
On the back of the magazine, children can respond to questions. After reading the magazines with the class, they read them independently and get to take them home to read.
I know that my students will be pleased that somebody donated to them.
I will love bringing out the colorful magazines with current topics and turning on the Smartboard to really engage all of my students.
