My 6th grade students are high energy social beings who love to discover new things! I teach in a high poverty low income area. We celebrate individual strengths and offer support in areas of need. Some students work well in partnerships, some excel in small groups, while others work at their best individually. The varied learning styles are exciting to see working together to make the students the best they can be! Even more diverse than their learning styles are their abilities and life challenges.
The students are very active and eager to participate in Project Based Learning.
It is a pleasure to see them make connections to what we doing to what we are learning academically (ie. make a scale key for a garden plot to what we are learning in ratios). Seeing these students work on real-world projects and eager to learn more about what they are working on is incredible! The sky is the limit of what they can accomplish.
My Project
The materials I have requested have not been used by my 6th grade students before. We spent time learning about lab safety and this equipment will help the students that we will take it seriously. I would like my 6th graders to use safety glasses when completing STEM or STEAM activity trials. We are engaging more and more in thee types of activities and we need this safety equipment to prevent injuries from occurring.
In the past we have not had safety equipment for experiments and trials.
The aprons will help remove any concerns they might have regarding spillage. I am so excited to be able to have these provided for my students!
