I am a librarian/teacher in an inner city school. Our elementary school serves approximately 600 students, about 90% of whom are classified as low-income. They are mostly minorities from a wide variety of cultures and countries, and range in age from five to eleven years old.
My students love reading and my library is their primary access to books.
Therefore, it is crucial that the library be an inviting place for them to learn research skills and develop the enjoyment of reading.
My Project
As a librarian, one of the things I teach is navigating the internet. letting the students know that "Just because it's on the internet doesn't mean it's true" is a challenge.
Instructing my students in 21st century skills is so important for their education.
I have just received 26 Chromebooks and need a place to keep them charged and safe. I see every student in the school, so it is vital to have the technology ready for each class that enters the library.
Right now I have the Chromebooks charging all around the room. The more the Chromebooks are readily available for my students to access, the more time I have for teaching these very important skills.
