Imagine moving to a new school. You walk into a classroom and you may not have ever had any formal education in not only one language but now three. You have never heard, read or written in any of these languages and you have this smiling teacher whose ready to teach you all about science. These are the students I teach every day.
I work in a school where our students learn three languages and all I want to do is to give them the opportunity to have a hands on experience of science.
Many of my students have very limited schooling in their own language and are now thrust into a formal school setting. My students have come from all around the world, from many different and often difficult situations. They hold the American Dream, but need the tools to make them successful. Science is universal across the world and as I work with my students I see their eyes light up when we get in the lab.
My Project
Students will be using the preserved frogs and accompanying dissection kits to have a hands on experience studying body systems. The specimens will allow them to practice using the materials that we have covered in class, as well as experience the practice of scientific discovery. Students will see how our bodies function and could foster a love of science and medicine. This project would significantly help my students' understanding of the body systems.
They would see the actual organs within the specimen and be able to see how they are relevant to themselves.
They could be impacting the world for better. The love of Science is developed at an early age and this project could help them to find an untapped desire. In the end, they will be problem-solvers, empowered to take the skills and knowledge in their class to improve their lives and those of people around them.
