Keep Our Young Musicians from Decomposing

My students need Piano and Keyboard Method software to help them learn piano and Sibelius software to help them learn how to compose their own music compositions.

My budding Mozart's are 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders at an urban Montessori magnet school.

Many of them have never touched a musical instrument, other than the hand bells we use for our bell choir. Similarly, most of my students come from families that could never afford piano lessons.

We managed to get donations from parents for a keyboard and the children very much enjoy the lessons that I give them. But, given the pressures of being in a low-performing school, I have to spend most of my time working on basic skills.

However, it is not the basic skills that get children excited about coming to school. The arts ignite that enthusiasm, and once these children are excited about school, all the rest--the reading and the math--start to fall into place. We need materials to enhance our music program. The software I am requesting can teach children to play on our keyboard and help them learn how to compose. Whether it is constructing a figure with blocks, folding an origami sculpture or composing a song, children love to create something of their own. Composing a song and then playing it: that is a thrill that these children will never get without your support. Thank you for your donation!
