This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The Kennedy High School Short-Circuited Eagles are a diverse group of high school students. These kids show up for practice even when they are facing difficult situations such as not knowing where they will be sleeping that night. They are dedicated to their learning but are often hungry and that makes attending to complex tasks such as coding or developing the drive train on our robot difficult.

The First Robotic Season has officially begun and we are now practicing on Saturday, unfortunately, our students do not have food to bring and our budget is limited.

Our day of building begins at 8:15 am and ends at 6 pm on Saturdays. The students often come without breakfast or snacks. They are coming to learn but sometimes their motivation fades due to hunger.

For some of our students, food insecurity is also a problem when they go home. Having food available for anyone who needs it, without any questions asked, will give students the security they need to fuel their learning. Having healthy snacks available will elevate the students' mental health and sense of well-being as well as improve their overall health.
