Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students I teach are in a special education class for students with Autism. The students have unique needs and struggle daily with significant communication and learning needs. They work every day on their life skills, daily living skills, and communication.
My students also live in a high poverty area, which makes our school even more unique, because they may not always have everything need at home.
My highly diverse learners oftentimes need some sort of tool to be more successful. Despite challenges at home and in the community, my students are enthusiastic, inquisitive, and thoughtful. In my classroom, we work with our students to work hard daily to improve their communication, behavior and academic skills.
My Project
My students love when they are able to use color changing pencils to complete their work. We are in need of a pencil sharpener to sharpener our colored pencils, as well as, our regular pencils. My students use different size pencils when working to help hold their grip better.
We need pencils to learn, but how will we use the if they aren't sharp?
My students each have a pencil box to hold all of their classroom essentials in. We have been using the same ones for 3 years, and they are starting to show their age and their wear.
