I teach 20 wonderful Kindergarten students at Sunset Elementary School, a public school in San Francisco. Our school, like many, has been faced with budget cuts and unfortunately, physical education or perceptual motor skill, has been virtually eliminated. "Keep on Moving!" proposes the purchase of perceptual motor skills equipment for recess and PE usage for my students. We currently have a limited number of balls and jump ropes that the children share at recess but not enough for meaningful group instruction and skills development. In order to keep the students moving and cut back on obesity, we also need hula hoops, scooter carts and balance balls. Given this equipment, I will be able to implement a perceptual motor skills class at least twice a week in order to build coordination and balance. Research has shown the importance of these skills in fighting obesity, having high self esteem and in learning to read and write. The equipment will impact many future students as well as the current 20 students in class. Thank you for your time and consideration in reading this proposal!
