Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a group of twenty-four first grade students in one of the cities with the highest crime in the nation. All students at my school site receive a free lunch. A full 97% of my school's student population is Hispanic, and most of them are first-generation in the United States. At least 15% of my students are newcomers to the country. School is one of the only places in which my students interact with someone who speaks academic English.
Living and attending school in a highly impoverished urban setting, my students are not exposed to many educational experiences outside of the classroom.
Exposing my students to different types of learning while keeping them engaged and entertained is very important to me.
My Project
In the past few years, I have noticed that many times when students come to school without a sweater it's because they only have one and it hasn't been washed. For this reason, I am asking for your support to have additional sweaters for these students.
Please help my students be warm and ready to learn by proving them with a brand new sweater.
My intention is to give the sweaters to those students that only have one. All the sweaters ordered look like uniform sweaters. Some of the sweaters will be for my students from this past school year.
