Help me give my students clean pants that can be used to replace soiled and ripped ones. Pull-on pants are most versatile and can fit many body types and sizes.
Many children at my school come from high-poverty areas where snacks and undergarments are a luxury. For several, necessary daily medications interfere with appetites and schedules, rendering them uninterested in food at breakfast or lunch time, and yearning for food a few hours later.
Even for students who have the basic needs at home, “extras” to boost their energy and to replace soiled or damaged clothing while at school, are more than their families can provide.
Completing morning work on an empty stomach is challenging at best. Playing at recess or in physical education class without underpants is embarrassing in the least. Focusing on math facts during late afternoon tutoring is overwhelming when the fact is, your stomach is growling.
My Project
Many of my students arrive at school in pants that are worn and stained, often handed down or shared by someone who already got the most use out of them. My families cannot afford clothing that can stand up to the amazing privilege we have of providing physical education and healthful activity every day at our school. Also, many of my little ones have suffered trauma and lack of training so that they frequently soil. Knowing that a call home may only produce anxiety for families with no available funds to buy basic clothing, let alone, uniform pants, it is a blessing to be able to provide a clean, sturdy pair of uniform pants to my students in need. By funding this project, you will allow me to provide these urgently needed items.
