Help me give my students supplies for learning at home that will encourage their emerging language skills - like communication cards and recordable talking tiles, as well as supplies that will build their fine motor and sensory skills.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is part of a large urban district. Our classroom is a specialized program for preschoolers with autism, and the students come from all over the district to attend. Every year, we have the most amazing families and the most incredible kids! This is often our students first opportunity to attend school, and this year they began their year learning from home. Then after returning for just a few weeks of in person learning, we had to return to learning remotely. Learning "on the iPad" has been challenging for our preschoolers and our families. Beginning to communicate, learning to interact, and working on preschool skills is uniquely challenging for children with autism in a virtual classroom, and our families and students try so hard! Day by day and week by week, we are overcoming obstacles together. Our preschoolers never give up! Their perseverance is remarkable, and their resilience gives us all so much hope!
My Project
We want to be able to offer our preschoolers and their families learning materials that will support the children's developing language and motor skills as they learn from home. Items such as communication cards and recordable tiles help children who struggle with oral language interact with peers and adults during virtual learning. Supplies such as adaptive scissors, writing tablets, hole punchers, markers, and glue give little fingers a chance to grow stronger and build creativity. Sensory materials, such as stringy balls and pop tubes, help our littlest learners stay focused and engaged during learning meets.
Preschoolers are full of persistence and curiosity... given the appropriate supports, they keep learning and growing and becoming, no matter the odds!
Our students and families are trying so hard to reach learning milestones during this difficult time, and we'd love to be able to give them every advantage we can!
