I have just been assigned to teach 2nd grade next year. I am beyond excited to begin this new adventure! I am especially excited to teach this grade-level because many of the students that I taught in Kindergarten will be my students again this year. They are an eager and active group of students who enjoy physical fitness activities outside of school. They have a love of learning, but require an outlet that requires them to be active. Our budget is small at our school, and unfortunately, all of the money is currently being spent on classroom supplies. I am so excited to provide them with a healthy and engaging physical education program with the equipment that I am requesting.
My Project
Physical Education is a requirement in our schools, yet there is no funding provided for P.E. alone. The P.E. equipment that I am requesting will give these awesome kids the best P.E. experience possible.
Students will be using this equipment to learn and practice large motor skills such as kicking, throwing, and catching.
Additionally, they will engage in agility activities that will improve balance and coordination. My 2nd grade students will, most importantly, learn how to work together as a team as I plan to organize such activities as soccer games and relay races.
Research has shown that physical activity in children helps improve academic performance. This equipment will add engagement to our P.E. period, along with provide a means to keep students physically fit and their bodies and minds ready to learn.
