Movement is natural for young children. Sitting still in one spot for long periods of time is unnatural for any human being, yet that is what many teachers ask of their students for hours during a school day. I teach 1st and 2nd graders and boy do they have energy!
Our Community School members believe that education must prepare all learners to be critical thinkers and thoughtful citizens.
We believe in and foster a school environment in which children work toward compassion, respect, equality and justice and where students are allowed to discover and explore their place in the world.
The staff at our school provides instruction and guidance that focuses on the students' needs and interests. All students, including those with special and gifted needs, are included in daily classroom instruction. Teaching methodology and classroom structure incorporate democratic practice, ensuring that students learn to solve problems together through discussion, collaboration and innovation. Learning together and from one another is an essential part of this philosophy.
My job as a 1st and 2nd grade teacher is to meet individual needs for students of all abilities and disabilities.
My Project
The concept of an exercise ball applied to a kids stool with this wobble chair - genius! It is fun and safe - made so it can't tip over. It will keep the kids active while seated - KIDS LOVE IT!
These chairs are perfect for kids with ADD or ADHD, providing an outlet for restlessness and extra energy. At the 1st and 2nd grade level, energy is so natural and should be allowed, especially when they are asked to work quietly. I plan to use these chairs around my reading table during group discussions and with students that find it challenging to focus while sitting still. All students deserve to feel successful.

My goal is to have a full class set of these wobble chairs. Starting with half a class set will be so beneficial.
