My students are from the hard-working parents of the Historic West Side of Evansville. They are a mix of working class and high financial need families. Our band is a healthy blend of these students. Our classroom knows no boundaries for students of differing socioeconomic backgrounds. We do our best to provide an instrument to any student who shows a desire to learn.
Many times, I supply materials for students out of my own pocket so they can participate.
I value every student, regardless of background. Even with our unique challenges, we were able to perform in the highest classification that middle schools can enter, and achieved the highest rating "Distinction" that a group can be awarded. These kids value hard work!
My Project
Many of my students are now facing unforeseen hardship. They will have difficulty being able to acquire the necessary supplies to keep the music alive in their life. When a musical instrument stops working, they lose the ability to use musical performance as an outlet to escape the circumstances that life has dealt them.
Help me keep the passion for music alive and well.
These supplies will be distributed to students, so they can continue to play at home and at school. Help make my kids excited about performing music again.
