Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Health is valued strongly by our students and they have began using “move to improve” activities throughout their school day. This “move to improve” initiative is something students look forward to in order to release their stress and anxiety and move it all out of their minds and bodies. Students are motivated and excited to learn and practice these techniques. Our school specifically serves students with disabilities and language learners. Among them we have 78% Hispanic students and 19% Black students. There is a dual language program available in Spanish which offers instruction in both English and the target language, and is designed to make children fluent in both.

During the Covid-19 Pandemic many students have transitioned into a remote or hybrid learning environment.
This new learning environment has made it extremely difficult for students to get up and get moving throughout the day and has also led to increased stress and anxiety. In order to combat this problem and promote a healthier lifestyle we are looking to provide students with yoga mats which they can use throughout the day to stretch, meditate, and get active. Since students can no longer share materials or do not have access to them at home they will each need their own yoga mat which is why we are asking for donations to buy a class set of 30 yoga mats.
