Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Title I school. 78% of my students are of Hispanic/Latino descent and are on free or reduced lunch. Many of my students traveled here on their own without their parents and are considered SIFE (students with interrupted formal education).
My students are curious and compassionate.
They work hard and appreciate the few opportunities that they are given. They use the vast diversity we have as a strength that connects us all together. We use culture and language to build bridges that can connect us to the global community.
My Project
I have a small classroom with traditional seating. I have been working hard to provide my students with more flexible seating. I am working to do that one seat at a time.
Flexible seating will have a positive impact on my students as it allows students to complete their work in a way that they feel comfortable whether it be on the floor or in the hallway.
Having even one of these seats will be a step forward in bringing the classroom to the 21st century.
The headphones will help my students travel far outside the constraints of the classroom. We struggle with being unable to hear a video or fully engage in a WebQuest. These great headphones will help us to fully engage with technology in the classroom.
