Our school is in a lower income area where there are only 1,300 people in the area with 31% of our population qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. We have a total of 400 students 7th through 12th grade. Building relationships with these students is a huge need. Students are having to go home and take care of their houses, work jobs, help with siblings, and do not have time to worry about academics. School is a place where they can get away from tougher responsibilities.
I want to provide a calm, safe place for these students to go when they are having moments of anxiety, stress, and worry.
The "Keep Calm Zone" will be a room that will support the needs that the students need. A need to let go of the worry, to be stress free and to be in a zone where they can regather themselves before going back to the classroom.
My Project
The materials from this request will redesign the room that will be designated at the Keep Calm room. The supplies requested will have a designated spot in this room for students to use when needed, or even during the day to come and grab something that is of need to help them get through the day - such as paper, pencil, paper.
Students that are struggling often need a space where they can have some quiet time, write their thoughts down or even color to release the stress.
Young adults are going through a lot and have more responsibilities than they need to. Having a positive environment and a safe place for students to come to is always a need. Help us create this Keep Calm room and reach out to our students and their mental health.
