My Students
My school district is part of a rural community with 80% of the student population coming from low income households.
My students are intellectually gifted 3rd grade students.
Students come to my classroom through a weekly 2 1/2 hour "pull-out program" twice a week for a total of 5 hours per week. My class size ranges from 6 to 10 students. I have a total of 41 students.
My students come to my classroom excited to explore the world of critical thinking skills, creativity, group dynamics, communication, research, effective and life skills, and self-directed learning.
My Project
My students are intellectually gifted and come to my classroom as a pull-out program at our school. Some of my students are prone to stress and anxiety due to their high intellect. Through my gifted curriculum, students learn techniques and coping skills to relieve this stress and anxiety. Often gifted students are faced with other conditions such as, ADHD, ADD, Autism, OCD, and Asperger Syndrome which makes it even more difficult for them to stay focused.
I have read many research articles that show that physical activity helps to increase focus and attention while students are sitting at their desk.
I like to provide opportunities for movement that some of my students have been craving all day in their general education classrooms.
I would like to provide a variety of devices for my students that need to move. The chair bands will be great for those wiggling feet as well as the little feet that don't quit touch the floor. The Marble Sensory Fidget, Kinetic Art Asteroid, Magnetic Art Moons & Stars, Magnetic Sculpture, Snake Cube, and Speed Cube Set will provide great resources for calming sensory strategies. I feel that all of these devices will help students relieve stress when needed and be able to remain focused, engaged, and at peace in my classroom.
