My students need a relaxing environment to read and enjoy it. Whether they are on the rug with a pillow, or in the chairs they will have a place to read.
The students at our school come from a variety of challenging backgrounds. The school is a part of the Department of Alternative Programs and serves the entire county. Students are placed here as a second chance after varying disciplinary actions en lieu of expulsion.
The school now serves 8th graders to 12th graders, so the needs have changed.
The school has recently transitioned from a middle school to a high school program. The school serves at a 100% free/reduced-price lunch.
My Project
The library at our school has just been reorganized as a high school library after being a middle school. At the moment it is just an undecorated room with shelves, books, long tables, and stackable chairs. The students will be using the library to work on projects and school work, or to take a minute to read and relax. However, the furniture at the library is in desperate need of updating and is not comfortable.
The items requested will make the library a relaxed area that will improve reading and the moral of the students.
The rug will be used along with the pillows as a place to lay down and read, allowing students to work comfortably or just to have a seat. To add some more flair we are requesting the wall art, and comfortable seating such as the bean bag chairs, saddle stools and inflatable seating.
