Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Hurricane Harvey has had a significant impact on our students, faculty, and staff. Many of our students and their families have lost so much. But each day we are taking steps to move forward and to create a brighter future. I work at an Early College High School where students work hard to finish not only their high school diploma, but an Associates Degree from the local community college.
The majority of our students are from low-income households that are historically underrepresented in college.
Our students are faced with many challenges in school, as well as outside of school. Regardless of these challenges, students come to school each day eager to learn. They want to build a better future for themselves and they know education is the way. As their teacher, I want to do everything I can to help my students succeed.
My Project
We are recovering from Hurricane Harvey and I am looking for ways to help students de-stress. As the PE teacher at our school, I try to teach activities and sports that the students enjoy, but I also want to teach them new ways to exercise and de-stress. One sport that our students don't have much experience with is the sport of tennis. I would LOVE to teach them how to play tennis. I think tennis is a great way to spend time with friends and family, and a great way to de-stress.
The donations for this project will help me get equipment needed to teach students how to play tennis.
We need rackets, balls, and baskets to carry the balls. The good news is we have access to six tennis courts that are across the street from our school. With your generous donation, I could get the equipment and teach my students a sport they could play for a lifetime. This would have a positive impact on their lives both now and in the future.
