I have 22 wonderful second grade students in my classroom. Most of my students come from low income housing. Each one of my students are unique in their own way. My students come from very different, and at times; complex home situations. Despite the struggles of my 7 and 8 year olds, they come to school with their best foot forward.
My students are energetic, creative and motivated to learn.
In my classroom, my goal is to build a classroom environment that is not only safe but a place of relaxation and focus. I find my students learn best when they are able to shut out the outside world and learn in a calming atmosphere. I want my students to be able to identify their feelings and find a way to self-monitor and control their emotions.
My Project
My students are motivated to learn. However, children are not meant to sit in uncomfortable desks for 6+ hours a day. I want to provide my students with an environment in which supports their individual needs and personalities. I want to give my students choice. I want to give my students comfort, so they can enhance their focus. I want to build a community of learners, in which students are seated to easily work with peers. Most of all, I want to make learning fun and exciting! I want my students to want to come to school and grow! The items chosen for flexible seating include; 4 bouncy chairs, 4 wobble chair cushions, and bouncy bands for the bottom of the chairs. My students will benefit from flexible seating!
