Our school is an academically successful, rural, high school that is filled to the brim with about 900 wonderful students. We serve our military community as well, pulling in students whose parents work at the USMC and Naval facilities at either Camp Lejeune, Cherry Point, Bogue Air Field, or the two Coast Guard stations.
In the state's ranking system, our high-performing high school has been ranked as a top ten public high school in NC for eleven consecutive years.
Through our state's report card system, we have been given an "A" designation, the only school in our district or county to have such a mark. We have earned this distinction for the FIFTH year in a row. And we are very proud of it!
On September 13 2018, our community was hit by Hurricane Florence. However, the hurricane might have re-shaped us, but won't define us. We are CarteretStrong.
We are on a roll. We are luckily located by coastal waters and it's a perfect background to teach the Social Studies for which I am honored to be the facilitator. There's always something to improve on, excite our class, and re-energize our learning.
My Project
As students continue to progress throughout their high school career they will need to have more experiences that help them grow and understand the post-secondary world. Many will go on to continue their education at a college or university. Others will go to a trade school or the military, and yet some will jump right into the work force.
Regardless of their plans after high school, all students should know how to speak professionally to and among their peers.
Often this will require them to present to groups of varying sizes. To provide the students with a setting that appears professional and mimics potential future sites of presentations will be one more step that these children will have toward success in their adult lives.
Having a podium that can house the technology for classroom presentations as well as provide a position to present from will be a wonderful asset to my classroom. The lamps will also help in respect to the atmosphere of the room. Florescent lighting tends to have a negative impact on many students vision in the classroom. A softer light within the room will provide a much more calming effect for both student and teacher.
