Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is located in a large, urban city with a diverse population. Most of my students come from single-parent families or from families where both parents work long hours to support their families. Often times, several generations live together in the same house.
Many of my students come from homes where English is not the only language spoken, and many have come to us from other countries.
The majority of my students receive free lunch. I am lucky enough to teach an awesome group of middle school students who are creative, eager, and enthusiastic. They are always interested in learning more about a topic and constantly challenge me to be on my toes. I want to teach my kids the required subject matter, but I also want to teach them to be themselves, have fun learning and to love reading! Thank you for joining us on our journey.
My Project
Since we do not have a school library, classroom libraries are the only places my students can get books in our school. I want to have a great library with a variety of books at all levels. I want students to find a bunch of different topics from mysteries to dramas to comedies for them to choose. Because our library is the only place to get books, our books show a lot of wear and tear from all of the "love" they have received over the years. Many of them are beyond repair or are missing in action. I would love to be able to replace some old favorites and add some new titles to our library. We are asking for some great books like Doughnut Fix, Van Gogh Deception, and Ghost Boys. We are a public school with a very limited budget so buying new books is not possible.
I want my classroom library to be a place of inspiration and enjoyment for my students.
I want to have a library that is as full of great literature as possible. Please help me add some new books to our library! Thanks!
