Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are in Kindergarten (ages 5 and 6) in Charlotte, NC and are just learning what it means to be in school. Many of them come from low-income households where they do not have opportunities to make choices about what’s best for them. They will need lots of love and care as they start their journey in school. Kindergarten students are energetic and excited about learning and eager to try new things. I am excited to work with this group of young learners who have so much potential.
My Project
All students in my class, but especially those with special needs, will benefit from the trampoline. We have have several days of needing to stay inside from recess due to weather and heading into the winter months, my students need to MOVE! They are so young and expecting them to sit still all day is unrealistic. I plan on allowing them to jump on the trampoline on indoor recess days as one physical movement option. On a daily basis, those students who are in high need of movement breaks will be able to get the input they desperately need while not needing to leave the classroom.
The Discovery Tubes are a great way to incorporate science concepts for all students to explore.
However, there are some children who have moments in the day when they need a break or need to calm down. These tubes are a quiet and developmentally appropriate way to do that.
Lastly, the theraputty will be used to strengthen the hands of a student with special needs so that he will be able to learn to write.
