My 5th grade students are heterogeneously grouped with varied academic levels. They are hardworking, well-behaved, and enthusiastic about learning. They enjoy taking risks and exploring new ideas.
My students find learning to be more meaningful when they are having fun, and when they are responsible for their own learning.
My school is a preschool to 5 school that serves a population of about 1,500 students from cultural diverse backgrounds. A majority of our students are from low-income families. Our school is dedicated to technology integration and technology-rich classrooms. Our school administration and teachers provide students with a high quality curriculum aligned to the Common Core.
My Project
Having Meebots in my classroom will add to the STEM "playspace" we are creating. The Meebots will encourage students to use their imaginations to create and design their own robots, as well as introduce students to Blockly and Swift Coding languages.
STEM learning with robotics will enable students to learn coding for future academic and real world applications.
Since programming can be abstract, building and controlling a physical robot allows students to visualize and fix mistakes through debugging and precise instructions. Students quickly learn what robots can and can't accomplish.
The Meebots will increase learning through fun as it introduces programming to a range of students with varying abilities, giving them positive reinforcement and appreciation of their capabilities and strengths.
