My students need 10 copies of "Blindness" to keep book club alive and well throughout the academic year!
I have a huge crop of new students eager to read, but somewhat disaffected by the current selection in their curriculum. I want them to develop and maintain a passion for reading that will stay with them their entire lives.
Students joining book club are avid readers (and some struggling readers) whose primary source of reading material is the library.
They are primarily minority students coming from working class homes who want to build their own reading libraries and share their love of reading with their family.
These books will give some students their first opportunity at reading and participating in a book club environment for the first time. My students need copies of Blindness to keep book club alive and well throughout the academic year! They will be asked to generate questions for and participate in discussion that will get them thinking more deeply about what they read. Participating in book club teaches students to be critical readers, even when doing it for fun!
Please help keep book clubs alive and well!
Our goal is to create lifelong readers who will share their love of reading with others and to help students who have a budding joy for reading pick up some valuable comprehension and analytical skills that will benefit them academically in a variety of subjects
