Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are from Gilroy, CA, and have joined my Culinary Arts class to learn all about food and cooking. I am training them to be successful in the kitchen whether they are looking for this as a career or if they want to learn to cook for themselves. This program gives children from all cultures, areas, and various incomes an opportunity to learn important life skills, thrive within the school and build a better community inside and outside of school. My students are eager to learn and thrive in this industry sector.
My Project
I teach Culinary Arts in High School. Culinary relies on having the ability to wash soiled uniforms and linen for sanitary purposes. Having a reliable washer and dryer makes all the difference in running a sanitary kitchen and helps the students learn the responsibility, as well as the importance of having a clean kitchen.
Students will learn the washing process start to finish in the kitchen and take pride in keeping their space clean.
This doesn’t just benefit the class, it also teaches valuable life skills the students can take with them outside of class.
