Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are from a low-income/high poverty area, and many of them are from immigrant families. These student are often in charge of taking care of their younger siblings and have more responsibilities than your average middle school student. They face challenges both in and outside of school. Many of them do not have technology in their households to meet the needs of the ever-evolving classroom and world around them. That being said, they are still a huge inspiration to me every day. Because of my students, I am learning to be more patient, to be kind, selfless, and composed.
With your help, I will be able to bring engaging graphic novels to my students.
By and large, my students love reading, but some struggle to find texts in my classroom that make them want to read. By contributing to this project, you will help foster that love of learning and introduce my students to new texts and adventures to explore!
My Project
As middle school students, the children in front of me are ever-changing. To keep up with their interests and to get them reading independently (inside and outside of class), I created this project to bring graphic novels into the classroom.
Personally, I think graphic novels should be in every classroom because they help students engage with a text on a whole other level.
Even struggling readers can comprehend what's going on and build on foundational skills taught in class.
Please help me bring even more engaging texts into my classroom library to push my students to be strong, confident readers by the end of the school year!
